The lilac

sits on my desk like a blessing

Like romance

Where everything is a little bit brighter

And there’s a spring in the step

Gorgeous and wonderful

Perfuming everything

But it’s just for a day

Now withered

It’s smell lingers and it won’t last too long

My first Buddhist teacher, Chagdud Tulku Rinpoche, once said,

“Things can always get worse.”

I try to live this one precious life so fully

I burst like the lilac into being

And perfume the world with life unfolding
