A Practice- Love Everywhere

My teachers, Larry Ward and Peggy Rowe Ward, emphasize that if you’re given a practice or teaching you have to make it your own. When you work with it, embody it, you have your own insights and experiences that become your truest teachers. Larry says that every generation has to “reclaim the spiritual inheritance” of the generations that came before.

Loving is a practice. A deep practice. One that I come back to, recommit to, over and over again. Recently I wrote this song to help me practice embodying love. The words are simple and the rhythm is slow. As I sing it I focus my attention on all the ways the words are meaningful to my life and experience out in the world. I sing and I see. I sing and I feel. I sing and I become what I’m singing. The song, sung, becomes a healing, a prayer, an aspiration. a commitment, and a lived experience simultaneously.

Music is the most deeply transformational tool in my toolkit.

Maybe you’d like to try it. Or maybe you’ll make your own.

Here are the words:

I see love. I see it everywhere, through the pain.

I see love, I see it everywhere, through the pain.

I see love, I see it everywhere

Even places where I’m scared.

I see love. I see it everywhere, through the pain.

I hear love. I hear it everywhere, through the hurt.

I hear love. I hear it everywhere, through the hurt.

I hear love. I hear it everywhere

Even places where I’m scared.

I hear love. I hear it everywhere, through the hurt.

I smell love. I smell it everywhere, through the greed.

I smell love. I smell it everywhere, through the greed.

I smell love. I smell it everywhere

Even places where I’m scared.

I smell love, I smell it everywhere, through the greed.

I taste love. I taste it everywhere. Through the poison.

I taste love. I taste it everywhere. Through the poison.

I taste love. I taste it everywhere

Even places where I’m scared.

I taste love. I taste it everywhere, through the poison.

I touch love. I touch it everywhere. Through the violence.

I touch love. I touch it everywhere. Through the violence.

I touch love. I touch it everywhere

Even places where I’m scared.

I touch love. I touch it everywhere, through the violence.

I am love. I am it everywhere. Through the fear.

I am love. I am it everywhere. Through the fear.

I am love. I am it everywhere

Even places where I’m scared.

I am love. I am it everywhere, through the fear.
